Also, the PowerBar displays the current wattage that’s being used, and that’s a really nice addition to have. Finally, there’s an electronic fuel gauge that displays how much fuel is left and also a runtime display that will show how much time is left before needing to refuel.
About the only display item that you won’t find is an engine hour meter for the purposes of maintenance. However, what about performance? As mentioned, that’s pretty good too. There are three different modes of operation (turbo, standard, and economy) that can account for reducing noise, saving fuel, etc.
The only issue with the economy mode is it can’t handle heavy loads all that well. If you couldn’t tell, we just really like this option. Indeed, we feel it’s the best 2.000-watt inverter generator (at least when also factoring in price).

Making this a contender for the best 2.000-watt inverter generator is the functionality of this sucker. It functions as you’d expect for an inverter generator, but there are many features that we really, really like.
First things first, when harmful levels of carbon monoxide are detected, the technology built into this generator allows it to shut down automatically. The shell was also designed to minimize noise, though many will agree that enhanced sound insulation could’ve still been implemented here.
For an inverter generator, it’s also quite compact and able to be handled with one person. No, it’s not as light as a feather, but that’s never going to be the case with an inverter generator. As with most options, additionally, if you want more power, you can buy the parallel connector kit separately to connect two units together.
The interface, while decent, could’ve used some work, admittedly. Most importantly, it’s kind of a hassle to attempt to figure out how much fuel is left. Not sure why the designers didn’t think of that, but the design as a whole is still really good.

Gasoline is going to be the fuel of choice for inverter generators 9 times out of 10. Here’s what’s nice about this best 2.000-watt inverter generator…it can also run on propane. The running watts are a little lower when using propane, but it’s nice to have that fuel source to be able to use.
No worries, though, as this can run on gasoline too. When using propane, you do have to find the sweet spot to get this generator to start. Once you’ve learned how to start it using the fuel source, it’ll be easier from there on out.
Now, even though it’s advertised as being quiet, this inverter generator isn’t exactly quiet. It can get a little louder than 70 decibels at times, which is not what it’s advertised to produce. Then again, it also depends on how close you are to the generator and the load it’s handling. There are additional factors so we can’t criticize the advertising too much, basically.
A pretty good user interface overall, many key elements you can see straight from the generator. Really, our main complaint is how annoying this thing is to start when using propane. As we said, you have to find that sweet spot.

If you compare this best 2.000-watt inverter generator to the rest of the competition, it may not stick out like a sore thumb. It’s really going to fit right into all its brothers and sisters, but that doesn’t mean that the design isn’t good. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it also doesn’t have to.
Featuring an economy mode for the purposes of more efficient power, a 12V DC receptacle, a USB port, two, 120V receptacles, 2.000 starting watts, and 1.600 running watts, it’s got all the goods that you come to expect.
Well, we do have to say that we’re pretty underwhelmed by the interface as a whole. Quite frankly, there’s not much of an interface and this makes it much harder to figure out key elements (such as how much fuel is left).
But regarding performance, this does a really good job and is not too tricky to start. It might take a couple of pulls to start, but it’s not going to be anything where you’re sweating for minutes on end trying to get the stupid thing to start.

5. Westinghouse iGen2200 Portable Inverter
There’s something so odd with this inverter generator. We know, what an odd way to start. Believe us, this can be the best 2.000-watt inverter generator you ever own, but it can also be one you have to return. For whatever reason, previous customers have commented on how inconsistent these units can be.
If you find one that runs great, it’s going to be a terrific experience. Yet, some units just seem destined to have issues, and those you’ll have to return to get another one. But this caps off our list because it’s awesome when you get one that’s awesome (which seems to happen more than not).
With a maximum 12-hour runtime (when used in the economy mode), it will run your devices and appliances for many hours. It also starts relatively easily and runs rather quietly once it’s going. And for an inverter generator, it’s nice in the portability area too.
It’s just too bad that Westinghouse can’t figure out how to make these machines consistently. Again, though, with that said, the chances of getting a great unit are much better than getting a dud.
